What initiatives is GCCM planning that need financial support?
- SPIRITUAL DIMENSION: We will respond to Pope Francis’ call to an ecological conversion by promoting Laudato Si far and wide. We need every Catholic to read the encyclical, or at least hear a comprehensive homily or talk about it. We’ll also and inviteing the wider Catholic community into key global initiatives such as the Lenten Fast for Climate Justice and the Season of Creation in September.
- POLITICAL DIMENSION: We will continue to mobilize and advocate to drive the urgent policy decisions needed through petition campaigning targeting both national and city leaders, a divest and reinvest program, and joining mobilizations of the wider climate movement. Our governments are still very very far from the high level of ambition needed to achieve the 1.5°C temperature increase target of the Paris Agreement.
- LIFESTYLES DIMENSION: We will encourage practical ways for individuals and faith communities to transition off fossil fuels through the promotion of a Green Parishes Program and educational initiatives for businesses, schools, and other institutions. We Catholics should lead by example.
- YOUNG CATHOLIC CLIMATE LEADERS: We will launch this year long program to empower youth groups to mobilize their local Church for climate justice (integrating the 3 dimensions above), with World Youth Day in Krakow as a key moment.
