Over 40,000 Catholics from the GCCM network joined the massive crowds of 800,000 people in 2,300 rallies in 175 countries. Watch the march recap video and pics!
On November 29, hours before world leaders meet at the Paris Climate Summit, the Global Climate March took place to ask political leaders to commit to bold action to solve the climate change crisis. Over 1 million people are expected to join this festive, family-friendly march in over 2000 cities. This is exactly what Pope Francis is urging us to do:
Cardinal Turkson, President of the Pontifical Council Justice and Peace, recently said: “The message of Laudato Si’ needs to be integrated into the active commitment of citizens who organize to make the Pope’s message resonate in the halls of power… On Nov. 29, this is what hundreds of thousands of men, women and children will do in the Global Climate March.”
WHERE WILL THE MARCH HAPPEN
People will take action EVERYWHERE, in over 2000 cities worldwide. The Paris march, which was supposed to be the largest one, was cancelled by the French government because of the terrorist attacks, so we need to mobilize as never before in the rest of the world.
GROWING THE MOVEMENT
This march builds on top of last year’s People’s Climate March, when about 700,000 people marched in 162 countries and sent a powerful message to world leaders gathered at the U.N.
