Climate Justice: The Struggle for Our Common Home

Loyola University Chicago’s fourth annual Climate Change Conference

March 16-17, 2017

Our planet is warming because of human activity.

We’ve seen the coastal flooding along the east coast, the massive droughts and wildfires in the west, and experienced the polar jet stream in Chicago. We know that climate change increases the severity of weather and is a driver of food and water insecurity which disproportionately impacts the poor.

Join us at Loyola University Chicago’s fourth annual Climate Change Conference and learn how climate change undermines human rights. Climate justice is human justice. Standing up for our common home strengthens our communities, reduces inequality and ensures that everyone has a safe and healthy place to live.

We hope to offer up ideas on how every citizen can take care of our environment. Step out of your daily life and be part of a solution-culture. Shop at businesses that value sustainability, and learn how government policy, infrastructure and our economy have impacted the quality of our food and water.

  • A film screening and case study of the water crisis in Flint, Michigan.
  • Stories from Standing Rock and a brief history of how this movement began.
  • Lessons from frontline communities and their visions for a sustainable future.
  • Corporate sustainability, and how transformational change can occur from within an organization.

Keynote Speaker: Mary Robinson, UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy on El Niño and Climate, President of Mary Robinson Foundation: Climate Justice; and the recipient of the US Medal of Freedom by President Obama.

Keynote address on Thursday, March 16 at 7 p.m. in Mundelein Auditorium
