United by God in our different faith traditions and because we accept our interconnectedness with all our brothers and sisters, future descendents, and all creatures and things that God has made…

September 29, 2015

At the Interfaith Vigil held on Thursday evening Sept 24th, Cardinal Turkson and Fr. Michael Czerny S.J. graciously joined the group in prayer.  Rev Fletcher Harper invited them to say a few words, and Fr. Czerny shared the following prayer (transcribed from video for the benefit of those of you who were unable to be there.)

We are here together because we are being united by God according to our different faith traditions, but also and most specifically because we accept our interconnectedness with all our brothers and sisters, all our future descendents, and all the creatures and all the things that God has made.

We cannot have one creator and then say some of us are this, and that the others are of no account.

If we acknowledge one Creator, then we have to acknowledge that we all owe our existence to the same source.  Pope Francis would insist that we are all finally heading toward the same goal.

And so in this interconnectedness, we pray this evening.  And what we pray for in a sense is that we will be able to live out our interconnectedness in our daily lives, in our communities, and in our politics.

My prayer, our prayer for us tonight would be that we discover, experience, and live the interconnectedness that makes us part of one family, living in one great home.
