“Mobilizing Catholics for Climate Justice”: GCCM at WSF

August 5, 2016

Come meet the Global Catholic Climate Movement (GCCM) at the World Social Forum! Tomás Insua (GCCM Global Coordinator) and Br Ben Ayodi (GCCM Steering Committee member & Franciscans International VP), will share plans to mobilize Catholics for climate justice in 2016 and beyond.

The session will cover the upcoming Season of Creation campaign in September (an ecumenical collaboration with the World Council of Churches, ACT Alliance and others), the Reclaim Power campaign in October, our new Fossil Fuel Divestment program for Catholic institutions, the Laudato Si’ Animators program, and more. Given the short length of this meeting, we’ll aim to keep the presentation as short as possible to then enable a conversation about how to expand and deepen the mobilization of our Catholic family to bring Laudato Si’ to life for climate justice.

Date: Friday, August 12
Time: 11:40-12:40 (lunch will be provided)
Location: UQAM, Hubert Aquin Pavilion (A), Room M-050
400 Ste-Catherine Street East

*Registration is not mandatory, but will be used to calculate the food order.

The Global Catholic Climate Movement (GCCM) serves the Catholic family worldwide to turn Pope Francis’ Laudato Si’ encyclical into action for climate justice, by undergoing our own ecological conversion, transforming our lifestyles and calling for bold policies together with the wider climate movement.

Founded in January 2015, we are a network of 350+ Catholic member organizations in all continents. Our diverse membership reflects the diversity of our Catholic family: Caritas agencies, religious orders, lay movements, youth groups, diocesan offices and Catholic-inspired NGOs are members of GCCM.
