WYD: Laudato Si’ Eco-Village

GCCM and several of its member organizations – CIDSE, CAFOD, Catholic Earthcare Australia, Archdiocese of Manila, CYNESA, Trocaire, and the Saint Francis of Assisi Environmental Movement – are excited to be hosting the Laudato Si’ Eco-Village during this year’s World Youth Day Youth Festival in Krakow, Poland, July 26-29.  The festival will be characterized by workshops, exhibitions, and artistic and cultural performances under the theme “Merciful to God’s creation!” Our hope: to inspire participants to learn about, celebrate, and bring Laudato Si’ to life in their lives and in their communities.

We will be tweeting using the hashtag #LiveLaudatoSi so that you can see how the encyclical is coming to life in Krakow!

Tuesday, July 26

12:00-5:00 PM Laudato Si Eco-Village open at Park Krowoderski (see map)

The Laudato Si Eco-Village will include:

  • Exhibits to highlight the ecological realities around the globe, the Church’s teachings on care for creation, and green solutions. Interested in exhibiting? See more details here.
  • Green Sacred Space to reflect and pray on themes of caring for creation. Guided meditative walks and outdoor prayers spaces will provide a chance for pilgrims to rest in the beauty of creation. You’ll also have a chance to leave a prayer…and take a prayer for creation at our beautiful Climate Prayer tree.
  • Advocacy station with a photo opportunity to share how you will #LiveLaudatoSi and other activities to take actions for the earth.


Wednesday, July 27

12:00-10:00 PM Laudato Si Eco-Village open at Park Krowoderski (see map)

2:00-6:00 PM Laudato Si Youth Animators Training 
Location: St.Hedwig the Queen. (See map)

This training will inspire and equip Catholic youth leaders to bring Laudato Si to life in their communities. Participants will have the opportunity to gain essential skills, network with other committed youth, and help us launch our new Youth Laudato Si Animators network. Snacks will be provided. Registration required:

7:00-10:00 PM Laudato Si Concert

A celebratory event of the first anniversary of Laudato Si to express our concern and commitment for creation through song, dance, poetry, and art.


Thursday, July 28

12:00-3:30 PM Laudato Si Eco-Village open at Park Krowoderski (see map)

2:00-3:30 PM Workshop “Sharing eco-testimonies and commitments to action” 
Location: Park Krowoderski (see map)

Get inspired by youth from around the globe who are taking action on climate change in their communities. We’ll then break out cafe-style to meet others concerned about ecological issues and what is happening in our own communities.


Friday, July 29

12:00-4:00 PM Laudato Si Eco-Village open at Park Krowoderski (see map)

2:00-3:00 PM “Young Catholics Living Laudato Si ” gathering

How can you take action for creation? In this interactive workshop we’ll explore concrete ways you can make a difference for the earth and for our brothers and sisters most vulnerable to climate change.

2:00-4:00 PM Workshop:  Fossil Free – international grassroots movement

If it’s wrong to wreck the planet, it’s wrong to profit from that wreckage. Learn more about fossil fuel divestment, how to start your own campaign, and how it aligns with Pope Francis’ message/Laudato Si.

3:00 PM Blessing of the Climate Prayer Tree

Please note that the Laudato Si Eco-Village events do not interfere with the main WYD events.

The location of the Laudato Si Eco-Festival initiatives will be the Park Krowoderski, or the St.Hedwig the Queen parish which is very close to the park.

How to get to the Park Krowoderski:

1. FROM DWORZEC GLOWNY (MAIN TRAIN STATION),  take the tram number 3 going in the direction of KROWODRZA. Get off at the last Tram stop (KROWODRZA GORKA).

Walk for about 3 minutes along the street BATALIONU SKALA to the Park Krowoderski.


Take the tram number 154 going in the direction of PRADNIK BIALY. Get off at the 6th Tram stop BATALIONU SKALA. The Park Krowodeski will be opposite, 100meters away.

To get to St. Jadwiga Parish (St. Hedwig)

Follow directions to Park Krowoderski (above).  Then walk straight down WLADYSLAWA LOKIETKA for about 200 meters. St. Jadwiga Parish will be on your right hand side.
